‘Every Drop is Worth a Smile’ was the tagline for the blood donation drive initiated by the Real Estate Housing Development Association (REHDA) Youth, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and National Blood Centre of Malaysia. The blood donation drive was held on Saturday from 10am-4pm at Wisma REHDA located in Kelana Jaya.
Instead of spending a weekend solely for leisure and entertainment, there are more satisfying and meaningful activities that an individual can be involved in. REHDA Youth had organized an open blood donation drive for the first time which provided a golden opportunity for the public to help those in need.
Upon registration, each donor was given a consultation and brief evaluation of their personal health condition. A small amount of blood samples was collected from donors in separate laboratory test tubes for health checks like HIV infection/carrier, hepatitis A, B and C and Malaria virus. Donors who did not fulfil the required health conditions were disqualified from donating their blood.
Each donor was required to donate 1 pint of blood which is equivalent to 500cc. A Certificate of Appreciation by the Ministry of Health and National Blood Centre of Malaysia was awarded to every successful donor.
This blood donation drive was a great success in bringing hope to the sick and can also be life saving for certain recipients. Although donors may never know who will benefit from their kind gesture but the blessing will be cherished with utmost gratitude. We can observe the goodwill displayed by our community just by this simple act of blood donation and we are reminded of the true value of their contribution that will help others in their time of distress.
